Not so much a wedding.. more of a big family and friends holiday with a big ole party thrown in. Averil and Adam (never ones to do things by halves), decided that a big fat formal wedding just wasn’t their style. Instead they hired a beautiful old country house, Hornington Manor in York, invited all their mates and family for a whole week and then drank gin… lots of it.
It was bedlam. There were toys everywhere, bags full of Calpol, the sounds of “Let it Go!” reverberating through every room, and parents who looked like they needed a good nights sleep. This is the kind of wedding everyone should have if they have kids. No standing on ceremony, no tradition, just people having a bloody great time,. Kids running round the halls playing hide and seek, Dads holding bottles of expensive wine to their chest like it was their only lifeline, and mums who beamed from ear to ear whilst eyeing up the gin.
There was lots of laughter, lots of fun, lots of food! Someone totally should’ve stopped me eating the cheese before those steak pies came round!
It was, quite frankly, a breath of fresh air.
I should mention the Gin Bitches. Who got riotously drunk (I do believe one of them had to go off to bed at 9.30pm!) showed me their knickers, not once but several times, and kept Averil on the straight and narrow – well until she reached York Registry office anyway.
But I think Adam outdid us all with his Fresh Prince of Belle Air rendition… totally gobsmacked.
Snogs to them both for inviting me along for the day.
