Shanghai Wedding Videographer.
I’m not sure there is anywhere quite so beautiful in Shanghai as the Yacht Club, but it certainly takes some beating and as a Shanghai wedding videographer, it was one of the highlights of my year.
Back in October, my trusty sidekick The Tea Boy (aka Ian), hopped on various planes, trains and automobiles, and headed for China. It was quite the experience. And as well as shooting photography for Sean and Yiren’s gorgeous wedding, we also shot video.
So here it is. I hope I’ve captured their incredible wedding with as much love and attention it deserved. Shooting video as discreetly as we do (no big cameras and tripods, just little old us shooting on our tiny Sonys), we tend to capture the natural stuff that is happening around us – however, people do seem to think we’re just taking photos which always makes me laugh.
We also squeezed in a little pre-wedding shoot in the middle of Shanghai on the eve of their wedding and you can check that out here.
Shooting in the dark with only street lights to film by, was pretty cool so if you wanna see something a bit arty, go check it out.
Shanghai yacht club sits on the banks of Dianshan Lake, possibly the biggest lake I’ve ever laid eyes on, and is surrounded by lush woodland and gorgeous greenery – quite frankly, you couldn’t get a more perfect spot for an outdoor ceremony. Yiren, looking absolutely incredible in her Oscar de la Renta gown,, arrived by boat along with her three bridesmaids, her cute flower girl and paige boy. Escorted by a flotilla of two yachts and the whole of the youth sailing club, she was cheered into dock by 200 guests. It was quite the entrance!
By the time she walked down the aisle on the arm of her beaming father, the sun was almost below the horizon. There was some Shakespeare, some rings, some traditional songs and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. There was laughter a plenty and a few happy tears.
Weirdly, because of the way we shoot, and because of our down to earth approach to filming and photographing weddings, we often get mistaken as friends of the happy couple. I lost count of how many times people asked me at Yiren and Sean’s wedding how I knew them. Believe it or not, they also had three other photographers and two videographers shooting the wedding (it made for an interesting little photography/videographer dance for sure). But thankfully, because we don’t use big film cameras or huge tripods, we tend to blend into the background a little bit more than usual.
So big thanks to Yiren and Sean for letting Ian and I be their Shanghai Wedding Videographer.
