Chelsea Inspired Wedding Blooms
Not many people know that back in the day, I trained to be a Landscape Architect and Garden Designer. I know, it’s hard to imagine right? I spent many a waking hour during my six years at University, thinking about plants, flowers and trees. I even designed an award winning RHS show garden with a Kubrick inspired city plot – lots of chic matte powder coated steel and purple alliums. I still like to get my hands dirty occasionally despite my garden being the size of a shoebox.
With this being Chelsea Flower Show week, I thought it might be nice to step back to my plant obsessed days and celebrate our amazing floral artists who create not just show gardens, but incredible wedding centrepieces, buttonholes and bridal bouquets.
There is something truly gorgeous about bringing nature inside and long may the tradition of having flowers on your wedding day continue, because the sheer joy they bring, whether that’s through their beauty or their perfume, is one I think everyone should enjoy.
Fortunately I get to work with some incredible floral designers who take their clients ideas and let their imagination run wild. From colourful pumpkins stuffed with bright autumnal flowers, to tea pots filled with pastel coloured blooms, they weave their magic creating lush centrepieces and wedding decor that is astounding.
Recently I worked with the incredible Lynnie and her team at Stems Design on a huge project which saw them create an Easter themed display complete with ostrich eggs, tiny bulbs that could be transplanted into the owners garden afterwards and a gobsmacking installation the size of which had to be seen to be believed. There is nothing better than seeing a gorgeous wedding overflowing with blooms.
Choosing your wedding florist can be tricky and I know lots of couples who don’t consider flowers to be that high on their list, but one look at some of these displays and there’s no doubting that without our beautiful botanicals, ferns, flowers and greenery, weddings would be a much less beautiful event.
So here’s to all my incredible floristry friends and garden designer buddies… long may you continue to create blooms to blow us away. So whether or not you’re planning a trip to stare at some incredible show gardens at Chelsea this week, have a gander at some beautiful blooms below and get inspired for your wedding.
