New Orleans Inspired Wedding in York ~ Creative photographer

If music be the food of love….. If you just happen to run a very successful brass band who have played for the likes of Prince Charles and Jamie Oliver and feature at numerous festivals including Glastonbury… then it makes perfect sense that your wedding would have a New Orleans style parade through York, meeting musicians, buskers and dancing shop owners along the way. It would make perfect sense that you would hire an open top bus to tour the city whilst the band played up top and stopped traffic with all the noise. It would make perfect sense that your wedding would be attended by some of the jazz greats, and it would make perfect sense to wear a dress perfect for dancing.
This wedding was perfect in Every. Single. Way.
I met James and the boys of the New York Brass Band a few years back on the wedding circuit. They are the best wedding band I have ever come across. Their enthusiasm is infectious. If you want a jazz band who stand quietly in a corner… don’t book them. One of my fondest memories of last year was strolling into the Greenpeace field at Glastonbury in search of cake, to be confronted by hundreds of people singing and dancing along to NYBB who were on stage belting out a jazz version of Daft Punk’s Get Lucky. I’m not sure we ever got the cake.
So when James proposed to the beautiful vivacious Sally, who is chief whip at NYBB towers, there was an invitation to beer and to shoot their wedding. How could I possibly refuse?
There was a lot of dancing. There was a lot of singing. There may have been some beer.
After a quick ceremony at the York register office, (some awesome singing by James’ daughter Grace, which had pretty much everyone in tears) and the crazy parade, we stopped at The Hop for pizza, booze and yet more dancing courtesy of the Y Street Band.
And then hopped on a bus to the Post Office Club for rainbow craziness and the most amazing band, Brassroots, who introduced me to drum and bass jazz. Not sure my ears have recovered.
It was immense and possibly my wedding of the year… but that’s what happens when your mates get married right?
If you’re heading to Glasto this year, make sure you check out NYBB whilst you’re there… or book them for your wedding!
So without further ado… I give you…. Sally and James and the NYBB matrimonial madness.
