Barn wedding venues seem to be more popular than ever these days and it’s not so surprising when you consider how beautiful the likes of The Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey is.

I recently had the pleasure of being the wedding photographer for Alisa and Jim for their winter wedding at Bolton Abbey Priory Church, followed by the gorgeous Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey. The wedding venue opened just last year and is already becoming a firm favourite amongst brides and grooms not to mention wedding photographers and videographers everywhere. With beautiful architecture, big glass doors to let in beautiful natural light, and on top of that, it looks out on the famed North Yorkshire landscape of the Augustinian Priory, the magnificent Strid wood and River Wharfe.  It really is quite a breathtaking spot.

Wearing a gorgeous Pronovias gown, Alisa walked down the aisle of the Priory Church, on the arm of her father to marry Jim. As Jim is an architect, it seems fitting that that they chose such a renowned, historic architectural building for them both to marry in. The service was beautiful, with candles and holly down the aisle and, of course, a Christmas tree! And despite it raining cats and dogs, they both ventured outside for some portraits in those famous ruins.

Alisa managed to find time to facetime her grandparents over in Russia so she and Jim could wave their wedding rings in the air – isn’t technology bloody marvellous?

Then it was over to the Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey for confetti, mulled wine and lots and lots of vodka. Because, as we all know, a Russian wedding isn’t complete unless someone is waving shot glasses of vodka in the air and yelling ‘gorko!’ every fine minutes.

The Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey looked absolutely magical… with holly place settings for each guest, candles a plenty and engraved shot glasses so that guests could partake in lots of Russian style toasts.

The bridesmaids looked gorgeous in their dark blue gowns and white woollen shawls (because no-one wants to be cold on a wedding day!), and surprised everyone with an amazing song routine later in the day which went down a storm!

There were some emotional speeches (some impromptu ones too!), some amazing dancing, and quite a bit of falling over.. well, when there’s that much vodka involved, it’s inevitable right?

It really was a spectacularly great day at the Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey, and I for one can’t wait to be back there to shoot more weddings this year.

So, here’s a selection of some of my favourite images from Alisa and Jim’s Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey wedding.
