Vintage Kirkstall Abbey wedding with lots of DIY details. Image by Toast of Leeds wedding photography

Can I just say, more people should have their wedding breakfasts in a good pub. Yeah it can get a bit cramped, but you can generally get a Jager Bomb, an obscure real ale, proper cider, nice champagne and really nice food too… This is exactly what Kate and Neil did last weekend. After their big ol church do (Kirkstall Abbey no less), they hopped on an open topped bus (in the rain) and headed to the Cross Keys in Leeds to enjoy lashings of real ale, roast beef and yorkshire puds. Mmmmmmmm.

This was the second wedding this pair have enjoyed this year – let’s hope it’s the last! The first was in the Cayman’s where they live, and this one was their British affair – and it doesn’t get any more British than thunderstorms in the middle of Summer. Thankfully, the rain held out until after their beautiful ceremony (thanks to One Life Ceremonies and to wedding planner extraordinaire Hazel at Love to Marry) amid the stately ruins of the Abbey, and they were safely ensconced in the visitor centre where the bubbly flowed and so did the canapés ably created by Kate’s mum Margot.

Kate looked fabulous (she always does by the way) in her Jenny Packham frock surrounded by her gorgeous bridesmaids, Becs, Ami, Sarah, Jessica and Bryony. And as the rain began to fall, we headed off on the vintage bus for the Cross Keys.

Kate and her family had provided lots of DIY details with beautiful flowers and succulents in vintage bottles and vases, a photo booth, a sweetie bar, tons of fabulous cheese and a fabulous cake created by Kate’s mum Margot (she bakes them professionally, so brides if you need a cake, she’s your lady). All very splendid indeed. I had a whale of a time.

Thanks to the happy couple for being so fabulous and laid back and to Kate’s mum Margot for looking after me and making sure I went home laden with cake. x
