That girl there in the big white dress coming down the stairs at Rise Hall, I’ve watched her grow. To me, Amy will forever be 2 years old telling everyone on the back of a bus that it “f@cking stinks”! She will always be a trampolining, tracksuit wearing 13 year-old in my eyes. Seeing her get married to the love of her life, Lee, was quite frankly, surreal. First of all, Amy never ever wears a dress. She is the least girly person I know – apart from me. But there she is, looking like a goddamn princess! Seriously, I cannot get my head round it. It also makes me feel ‘well old’.
Whilst I shoot weddings week in and week out, I forget that they are primarily an opportunity to get all your family in one spot… because let’s face it, that rarely happens. And family, let me tell you, are exceedingly important. Family are around at times when your friends may not be… like graduation, or you 21st birthday party, breaking up with your first boyfriend, throwing up for the first time after one too many ciders, the birth of your first child, or getting hitched… all that important stuff. You might not see eye to eye with them all the time, but they will be there… waiting to pick you up should you fall and celebrating with you at every opportunity. There was not a dry eye in the house as Amy floated down the aisle on the arm of Granddad Norm and step-dad Nigel. Add to that an excellent speech from Amy’s mum Paula, well its fair to say the whole of Rise Hall was a bit ’emotional’. I think I had several things in my eye at various points… I totally wasn’t crying… it was the dust.
But the problem with family weddings is that there is a whole lot of booze… and a whole lot of family… Thankfully, I was armed with a second shooter, Jamie Burrell, who apart from shooting guests whilst I caught up with everyone, also managed to save me and the sound system when I, along with my sister in law, took it out whilst dancing like demons. So thanks Jamie. I owe you one. Let’s just say I had one of the best days I’ve had in quite some time and the most horrendous hangover.
So congratulations Amy and Lee… I still can’t believe she’s old enough to be married, or hold down a job, or a drive a car (or a van in Amy’s case). It was a bloody privilege to have been part of your wedding and a whole lot of fun to boot.
So, these are my favourites.. you might spot me in there pulling some shapes.. that kinda thing.
