Ben and Nicola’s Rustic Wedding at York Maze.
When it comes to wedding photography, fun and emotions rule. Yeah when you’re in full on mode with the planning, we know how easy it is to get carried away by the hundreds of Pinterest images you stumble on at midnight whilst eating cheese and drinking wine and wondering where your other life went as you crash head long into the madness that is the wedding world.
Weddings do kind of take over your life and little, and it’s easy to get swept up in that Pinterest ‘must have’ list of stuff.. ya know: the wedding signs, the gin bar, the cake toppers… While it’s lovely to see such beautiful stuff (not to mention taste lots of different gin!), for me, it’s nothing unless there’s a ton of emotion and laughter.

Ben and Nicola’s wedding had everything. Yep they had all the Pinterest worthy details but on top of that, and more importantly, their day was filled with 50million tons of smiles, a huge amount of laughter, hi-jinx, and a few happy tears. Add to that the sun was shining, and a bouncy castle (sort of)… well, for me it was perfect.
Nicola got ready a stone’s throw from the York Minster (make up and hair by the lovely Vicki Suddaby) before being driven across the city to the York Maze. If you’ve never been to York Maze and you have kids, you’re missing a treat. If you don’t have any children, but you do like having fun, it’s a pretty awesome wedding venue! The barn looked amazing as Nicola headed down the aisle to marry her Ben who was himself looking pretty stylish in blue suit and bow tie. I loved their handmade wedding backdrop cut from invitations after they mistakenly printed way more than they needed! Then it was out into the sunshine for craft beer, pimped prosecco and a go on the biggest bouncy air bag you’ve ever seen. Thankfully, despite losing his phone mid acrobat, Ben walked away slightly more sweaty than when he arrived.
Then there was awesome food, some beautifully moving and hilarious speeches and then the surprise of the evening as my good mates Back Chat Brass arrived to parade everyone out of the barn and onto the deck where Ben and Nicola had their first dance. I left a hot, sweaty, sticky mess, having danced my feet off, jumped on a big inflatable air bag, and enjoyed a cold beer. Absolutely perfect.
Thanks to the team at York Maze for looking after me all day long and to Ben and Nicola and all their lovely family and friends for being excellent fun.
Here’s a few of my favourite shots of their day.
